What makes a correction easy to act on

• The page it is on, and the sentence as it currently stands.
• What it should say instead.
• Where that comes from — an edition, a letter, a published translation, an archive record.

How corrections are handled

A substantive correction is made in the text and noted at the foot of the article, dated, with what changed. We do not silently rewrite a claim that a reader was right to question.

Permissions

Kafka died in 1924 and the German texts are in the public domain. The English translations discussed on this site are not, and are quoted only in the short extracts that discussion requires, with the translator named. If you hold rights in material reproduced here and want it removed, write to the address above and it will be taken down while we check.
